Meet the Teacher
Hello! 你好! My name is Yanni Da, teacher of room 12 at Stonebrae. Welcome to our class website! The kids call me Ms. Da, or Da Laoshi (达老师), which means teacher Da in Chinese. This is my fourth year teaching in the English-Mandarin Dual Immersion Program at Stonebrae Elementary School. This 2013-2014 school year, I am again teaching the 3rd and 4th combination class. I enjoy working with the wonderful kids, parents and staff at Stonebrae. This is a great learning community. It will be another great year!
I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I received my K-12 education there, my college and graduate degree in the US, and my teaching credential from SJSU. I now live in Fremont, married with two children, age 6 and 11. With great appreciation and admiration for both Chinese and American cultures, I strive to teach both to my students. I believe multi-lingual skills and multicultural mindset give children an advantage in the global competition.
My teaching principals are based on the 3 R's: Relationship, Relevance, and Rigor. Relationship - Teacher and students need to build a mutually respectful and trusting relationship to achieve effective learning. Relevance - Teaching content needs to be relevant to students' life and interests. Rigor - Teacher holds high standards and expectations to their students; and students work hard, do their best to achieve high academic goals.
I also believe that the success of education comes from a team of teachers, students and parents/guardians. Teachers are team leaders, students the climbers, and parents/guardians the support team that push and nudge students up and forward. When ALL team members do their jobs, we will go far and high!
